Parametric Search Queries

Once Parametric Search fields have been defined and populated, the final step is deciding what type of searches will be used with the data. These queries will in turn determine what extra indexes (if any) should be created to optimize those searches.

There are two syntaxes for querying Parametric Search fields: the infield: syntax, and the SQL Query Clause SQL syntax. Which method to use depends on the complexity of the desired search, as well as how sophisticated the search audience is. The infield: syntax is best suited to ad-hoc searches that should be flexible enough for any field, but simple enough to require only one or two arguments. The SQL Query Clause syntax is best for complex queries that require multiple fields or arguments, nested clauses, advanced operators, or should be "pre-canned" for the search user.
