Parametric Search Options

Syntax: a set of checkboxes

The Parametric Search Options control various search-time aspects of Parametric Search fields. The name and type of the fields defined at profile creation are listed, with three checkboxes for each field:

  • Searchable Whether the field is permitted to be searched via the infield: syntax. Searching fields that are not properly indexed may cause a performance penalty at search time, or less accurate result counts. The proper index depends on the query combination; see the Parametric Search Indexes section, here.

  • Sortable Whether the field is permitted to be sorted via the order query-string variable, which can be set to an optional comma-separated list of one or more Parametric fields to sort by. Each field specified in the order variable may have an optional -a or -d suffix to indicate ascending (default) or descending order. E.g. Price-a,Quantity would sort results by Price ascending, then by Quantity ascending. In version 17.1 and later, the values rank (relevance), date, size, visited or depth may also be given for one or more of the order fields. Note: front-end meta search profiles do not support size, and only support multi-field order values in version 26.2 and later, and then only up to 2 fields.

  • Output Whether the field should be output in XML mode (as a child element of each <Result> element). Some fields may be considered internal/private, unneeded in the output, or too large, and thus should not be checked for Output.
