Uploading a Data File

A new file can be uploaded by selecting it with the file dialog, then pressing the Upload button. Uploading a data file merely places it in the profile's dataspace directory. It does not modify the search database until the file is explicitly imported in a later step.

The currently supported data formats are tab-separated (TSV) or comma-separated (CSV) values in a text file, one item per line: each item will become a separate document in the profile. The first line of the file must contain names for each of the columns. These names do not have to correspond exactly to the existing profile field names, nor does every profile field need to be represented in the file. However, using the same name for the file column and its corresponding profile field will facilitate import, as same-name file/profile field pairs are associated automatically. The profile field set as primary key for the profile must be represented by a column in the file (though it also does not have to be the same name as the profile field).
